English for Academic Purposes

As a student at the University of Sunderland, you can join modules designed to develop your English language skills. Choose from a range of courses that run alongside your main programme of study.

Our courses are in-sessional, meaning that they run during term time, and are designed to develop your English language skills.

Students whose first language is not English can choose from a range of 5-week courses covering academic skills and topics. We also offer courses for those whose first language is English, or who are fluent in English as a second language, wanting to develop their academic language skills to complement their studies.

Opportunities to develop your skills

We run the Language Centre, a friendly and inviting space where students can access language learning materials, study, or socialise with fellow language learners. The Language Centre offers digital and print resources for a variety of different languages, PCs equipped with the latest language learning technology, and dedicated areas for self-study. Our team is on hand to offer guidance and help you make the most of our resources, all within a relaxed and supportive environment.
