Services for guests

Both The Murray Library and St. Peter's Library are usually open to a range of registered non-University guests during staffed opening hours. However from September 2020, building access and borrowing is being prioritised for students and staff of the University.

In order to comply with Government and University guidelines on social distancing, the capacity of both University Library buildings will be limited. To prioritise safe and secure access for University staff and students, Library ‘Guest’ visitors will not be able to visit or borrow from the Library until further notice.

Library ‘Guest’ visitors include:

  • Retired staff and Emeritus Professors.
  • Partner College staff.
  • Members of the Alumni Association.
  • Members of reciprocal access schemes e.g. SCONUL Access.
  • Members of Sunderland Public Libraries.
  • Members of the public.

If you are a guest eligible to borrow from our collections and you currently have books on loan, please get in touch with us when you are ready to return them.

Children (under the age of eighteen) who are being cared for by a University student or member of staff may visit with their care-giver. They must be supervised at all times.

If you are unsure about access to the Library or have any queries please contact us.
